Q: "I really enjoy your work and I'm excited to hear that there are some manga books I didn't know about. I can't wait until Radiant Shadows comes out. Is it true that there will be a movie for Wicked Lovely?"
A: Manga . . . There are 3 volumes in the manga. In US & Canada, the 1st is out; the 2nd releases on April 6, 2010, & the 3rd is out in 2011. They will be released in Italy as well, and if I understand correctly, the UK
Film . . . yes, Universal acquired the rights in 2009. We are at the point where there is a screenplay (!!!) that is in the revision stage, and as I understand it, that means we will soon be looking at directors. "Soon" is a funny world in publishing & films though, so don't ask me WHEN that will be ;)
Q: "I love the Wicked Lovely series heaps! Can't wait for Radiant Shadows and the fifth book...is it called Darkest Mercy? . . . .What is the name of the font that the publishers used in your books Wicked Lovely and the Ink Exchange? It's so pretty in the text, it makes every word look good and its almost like calligraphy. Do you know what it is? If so, could you tell me, because I'd really love to get my hands on it :)"
A: Not a clue on the font (sorry!), but yes, the working title for the final WL book is DARKEST MERCY. If any of you out there know what font the books use, feel invited to chime in.
Q: "I just finished reading Fragile Eternity and i love it. When i got 'till end I was like omg, there must be a sequel!!So Radiant Shadows is the sequel of Fragile Eternity? When will it be published? Can't wait to read it. I am very curious about what will happen with Seth and Aislinn.Niall is my favorite character."
A: RADIANT SHADOWS is not about Ash & Seth. This book is Ani's story. Seth is in it (so is Niall), but it's not a series abt just one couple.
WHY? I'd get bored too quickly if I did that & then I wouldn't write the books & then my editor would be angry & then I'd be forced to hide in a cave & slip out only to fight monkeys for food & my friend Jennifer researches w monkeys & tells me I would DIE quickly . . . so umm, writing a whole series of books JUST on Ash would kill me, so I don't.)
That said, DARKEST MERCY (WL Bk #5) is one with Ash as a protag again. :)
Q: "I luv luv luv ur books BUT I HOPE YA'LL ARN'T GONNA CRAM WICKED LOVELY & INK EXCHANGE IN 1 MOVIE. IT WOULD RUIN IT!
A: Here's the thing . . . AUTHORS don't make movies. We sell the rights to someone (in my case, Universal Studios). They hire a screenwriter (in this case, Caroline Thompson) who turns book into film. I have no actual
control. In the books-- CUE: Evil Laughing-- I have control of everything, but in a film? I'm just the chick that wrote the books. That's pretty standard. Seriously, they could turn Ash into a kickboxing alien with steel-tipped designer boots & a side gig as a detective, but I don't think they will.
I picked the folks I sold to bc I trusted them when they explained their vision for the film. Could they have lied? Sure, but I don't think they did. What's NOT totally standard is that they are keeping me bizarrely in the loop, & they ask me lots of questions--but they are NOT required to do so. Standard procedure is that authors sell it, & then hope like hell it turns out well. At this point, I have had NO reason to be alarmed. Will it be word-for-word what I wrote? Nope. It shouldn't be either bc some words are great on the page, but they need adjusted for visuals.
All I can tell you is that I'm happy with everything I know so far. . . but I have no control issues either. I'm not into films at all (I've seen exactly ONE in the theatre in the past 8 months). A film is just an interpretation. I hope it's a good one, and I have no reason at this point to think otherwise.
Q: "I read all three books in a matter of a couple of days. They were so interesting, but I cant wait to read some more of your work is there any books you would recommend to a young reader that is intrigued by your work.Your # 1 fan"
A: Here is a
post I did on recommendations. I regularly recommend books . . . lots of them, actually, bc I read daily which means I have far too many recs. Those are some of the ones I like, but I also do a monthly book over
here. That's a giveaway too. I recommend, AND I send it to 6 people. Why, yes, I am a book addict. I think it's a healthy addiction though :)
Q: "I feel like I have been waiting so long for your next installment. I am very excited to read Radiant Shadows! I am not in a metropolitan area (seriously, CENSOR is in the middle of BFE) and have very little opportunity to go to a book signing. Is there a way I could buy the book and have you sign it? I would be happy to pay for shipping"
A: Sure, send it with postage paid envelope, OR send a self-addressed stamped envelope with a note that says "signed bookplate pls?"

Q: What's Graveminder about? When can I read it?
A: I'm not good at this, folks. How about this: it's about a woman (Rebekkah), an undertaker (Byron), a town (Claysville), and some dead folks. It's a multiple pov story, & everyone whose read it disagrees on the genre. The theories are
- Crit/reader/friend: I'm going to call it a ghost story
- Friend: I thought ut would be fantasy, not mystery
- Friend: Oooh, horror. Fun!
- Friend: I didn't expect it to be a romance, but I still liked it.
- My Mortician: I don't usually read genre novels like this, but . . .
- Crit partner: I'm going to say it's a paranormal mystery with a strong romantic subplot
So, at the end, my answer-- It's definitely a book. At least I know that much ;)
As to the when . . . *shrug* IDK. I saw it listed on Amazon Canada for next January, and honestly, they almost always list release dates before I hear them from my publishers. So, I'm sorta thinking it'll be out in or near Jan 2011--but that's just bc I learned the release dates for my last 2 YA books by checking Amazon Canada.
